Democratic-run cities with pro-criminal, anti-police prosecutors are destroying lives (op-ed)

In a recent article, Newt Gingrich discussed the human costs of having pro-criminal, anti-police prosecutors in larges cities all over the country. His opinions are thought provoking as he sheds light on how now residents are paying the price.

Back in November 2019, Gingrich wrote an article with Sean Kennedy about the dangers of allowing radical, anti-police activists to permeate into various local district attorney offices and how it can be a dangerous trend.

As cities from coast to coast are being destroyed by violent protesters, American citizens are now living through the consequences of those choices.

In some cities, there have been over 100 consecutive nights of looting, vandalizing, destroying property, assaulting law enforcement officers, and acts of violence.

Gingrich reiterated that for more than three months, lawlessness and chaos have been allowed to dominate Democratic-run cities, and that its left wing leadership has been completely ineffective in restoring peace.

He brought up newly elected Multnomah County district attorney, Mike Schmidt who has added fuel to the fire by saying he would be dropping the cases of more than 500 protesters who were arrested for disorderly conduct, interfering with a police officer, and other charges.

Additionally, Schmidt said that for cases involving destroyed property or where people were terrorized, he simply wanted to give the vandals and bullies three months to pay restitution and then have their cases dropped. Schmidt does not care at all about the victims and their rights or needs.

Gingrich said:

“One beneficiary of Schmidt’s pro-criminal policies was Michael Reinoehl, who allegedly gunned down a conservative protesters in the street last month.

A month earlier, Reinoehl had been arrested by police for a gun violation, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. Schmidt dropped his case and put him back on the street with tragic consequences.”

Portland mayor Ted Wheeler pleaded with the violent protesters, begging them to stop the violence. What did they do instead? They ran him out of his own condo.

On the other coast, in Baltimore, another Democratic-run city, Gingrich talked about the spike in violent crime including homicides. Violent crime has surged under the reign of pro-criminal, anti-police district attorney Marilyn Mosby.

According to reports, since Mosby took office in 2015:

“Baltimore has reigned as America’s big city murder capital with homicides climbing 65% during her five-year tenure. Meanwhile, she dropped or lost 44% of all felony cases.

An astounding 50% of homicide suspects in Baltimore have prior ‘violent crime’ arrests and 31% were on parole or probation at the time of their arrest.”

In addition to that, from 2014 to 2019, reports show that street robberies in Baltimore are up 27%, assaults are up 22%, and murders are up 65%.

Moving over to Chicago, nearly 500 people have been arrested for violating curfew and refusing to disperse during the first few protests and violence that followed the death of George Floyd.

Again, in another Democratic-run city, Cook County state attorney Kim Foxx declined to charge them, saying they were “simply exercising their First Amendment rights.”

Chicago continues to see violence and civil unrest. Department stores along Magnificent Mile have been destroyed and looted, gun violence is rampant in the once-peaceful downtown streets, and residents have witnessed carjackings in broad daylight.

In the beginning, Mayor Lori Lightfoot supported defunding her police department, but then once her home was targeted by the violent protesters, she ordered the police to defend her home.

She has since changed her mind on the defunding police idea. As of September 1st, there have been 505 homicides compared to the 333 committed during the same time frame in 2019.

Gingrich praised President Donald Trump’s Operation LeGend initiative, as it has heavily curbed the violence in Chicago. Just in five week, federal agents arrested more than 500 people, and the murder rate is nearly half of what it was before the operation started. It is a shame the city didn’t allow Trump’s help earlier on, as many violent incidents would have been avoided.

Gingrich finished his article by saying:

“Many of the violent mobs tearing down our cities are doing so in opposition to systemic problems in our criminal justice system. There is a systemic problem, but it is not racism. The problem is rising pro-criminal, anti-police Democratic leadership.”

Here is another article from Law Enforcement Today about Democratic-run cities and their lack of respect for the criminal law:

This editorial is brought to you by a staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

WASHINGTON, DC – In August, Kenosha, Wisconsin Police shot Jacob Blake in the back several times.

Blake, who had several arrest warrants for him at the time, one of the charges being rape, admitted to the Wisconsin Department of Justice that he was armed with a knife at the time of the shooting.

Despite that, the Democratic Presidential and Vice-Presidential nominee have embraced him.

The Democratic Vice-Presidential Nominee, Kamala Harris, was one of the staunchest critics of Brett Kavanaugh, who had been nominated to the Supreme Court by President Donald Trump.

The reason?  She believed, or claimed to have believed, allegations from Christine Blasey Ford that Kavanaugh had raped her many decades ago.

Harris, at the time, publicly declared that she believed Ford and her claims, and that was one of the many reasons, supposedly, why she was against Kavanaugh being confirmed to the highest court in the nation.

Despite the many inconsistencies in Ford’s account, and the many witnesses that claimed that it never happened, Harris alleged she still believed her.

Despite all of that, and the facts that there were never any criminal charges against Kavanaugh, she now suddenly does not seem to believe the woman that has accused Blake of raping her.

After all, regardless of how he got into the hospital, how could anyone speak highly of a man who is alleged to have committed rape?

Yet, according to Blake’s attorney, Benjamin Crump, Harris seemed to have a very good visit with a man accused of raping a woman only two months ago.

Crump said:

“Senator Harris had an inspirational and uplifting one-hour visit with Jacob Black, Jr and his family today.  She spoke individually with each family member about how they were handling the trauma and urged them to take care of their physical and mental health.

“In a moving moment, Jacob Jr told Sen. Harris that he was proud of her, and the senator told Jacob that she was also proud of him and how he is working through his pain.”

Wow.  First, no one knows for sure if the officer was justified in shooting Blake in August.  Everyone has seen the video, everyone gasped when they saw it.

Second, even if the shooting is ruled justified, (he did admit to being armed), the question that persists is were the number of shots necessary to end the threat?  None of us know, we were not there.

Now, if Blake was actively still trying to acquire a weapon or retrieve a weapon to harm someone, and it took that many rounds to end the threat, then it is completely justified.

If that was not the case, and only one or two rounds were necessary, then the initial shooting would be justified but the remaining shots viewed as excessive force.  If the shooting is ruled unjustified or excessive, the officer will most likely be charged.

However, regardless of why Blake is in the position that he is in, how anyone, especially a former prosecutor and woman could be “proud” of a person alleged of rape is beyond words.  What Harris is saying here, through her actions, is that she does not believe the woman who alleges to have been raped by Blake.

Harris is not alone in her gushing pride of an alleged rapist.  Her running mate, Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden, also met with Blake.

After he had met with the alleged rapist, Biden said:

“What I came away with was the overwhelming sense of resilience and optimism that they had about the kind of response they’re getting…[Blake] talked about how nothing was going to defeat him, how whether he walked again or not, he was not going to give up.”

These words, from both Harris and Biden, are extremely unsettling, especially in the eyes of any rape survivor.  In the case of Blake, a judge has seen all of the evidence and facts, and determined that there was probable cause that Blake did, in fact, rape the victim.

Yet, Biden and Harris are steadfast in their support of Blake, all seemingly because it fits their agenda that police are bad, and aligns themselves with Black Lives Matter and Antifa.

Harris claimed to believe all women who were accused of rape, yet, in her actions she refuses to mention the event altogether.
