MINNEAPOLIS, Mn. – A 20-year veteran of the law enforcement community is throwing his hat into the political ring in an attempt to unseat Minneapolis Representative Ilhan Omar in 2020.
Officer Chris Kelley has served with the Minneapolis Police Department for the last two decades. Now he’s taking a stand for his brothers and sisters in blue and is taking aim at bringing real change to his city… and well as support those that risk their lives to protect and defend it.
“I have spent my entire adult life in public service; I know it, I feel it, I live it every day.”
Officer Kelley will run as an independent during the race, and is apt to gain a ton of support from those serving the public. Kelley criticized Rep. Omar for her online social media battles with President Trump and swore to put his constituents first, pledging to focus on local issues instead of attacking the federal administration.

Kelley is no stranger to serving the public. In addition to his 20 years with MPD, he also served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for 27 years.
Kelley let the public know that he’s more than capable of performing the duties necessary to give his people a well-represented voice.
“I have spent my entire adult life in public service; I know it, I feel it, I live it every day. CD 5 needs the voice of a worker who gets all people, not just some.”
Kelley knows the political battle won’t be easy, but he’s willing to fight to take out Omar. Kelley says he has previously aligned more with the policies of the GOP, but is taking the independent spot in order to secure his best chance at taking Omar’s seat.
The Minneapolis district in which the two are facing off has historically voted in favor of democratic candidates.

Fox 9 reported that last week Rep. Omar received support from citizens after a tweet from President Trump, which basically said if you don’t like America, you can feel free to leave, blew way out of proportion. However, many say that regardless of the scenario, Omar will face a massive uphill battle to keep her seat in 2020.

Omar has largely been criticized by members of the military and law enforcement as she pushes for open borders and socialist policies.
The Democrat from Minnesota responded to a tweet from President Trump in April, accusing him of “lying about the border” and calling the debated border wall a “monument to racism”.
“This is a fake emergency! Donald Trump is lying about the border in order to build his monument to racism.”
Rep. Omar is also reportedly still under investigation for allegedly spending campaign funds on a divorce attorney and personal travel.
In February, she was accused of tweeting anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli messages.
She also suggested that groups that support Israel are pushing members of Congress to have “allegiance to a foreign country”.
As a result of her comments, a watered-down resolution “condemning hatred” was passed. President Trump has previously called on Omar to resign from Congress.
She hasn’t exactly made friends on the left, either. In March, Omar suggested that former President Barack Obama was a “pretty face” who got away with “murder”.
