HARTFORD, CT – In the days that followed a concerning floor speech delivered by a drunken Connecticut State Representative, the State House Speaker has reportedly “admonished” colleagues within the House that have been allegedly drinking in excess.
DRINKING & LEGISLATING: You probably don’t get to drink on the job, but some of the people who represent you in Hartford have https://t.co/Bu1vrbr5tH

The revelation of drinking and legislating in Connecticut came to the forefront after a bizarre floor speech delivered by Democrat Connecticut State Rep. Robin Comey on May 27th, where the lawmaker attempted to weigh in on a bill pertaining to Early Childhood Education and Services.
Here are the matters of the bill Rep. Comey weighed in on, verbatim, on May 27th:
“Yes, thank you very much. Um, I just wanted to take this opportunity to…um…um…uh…recognize that, um, you know a constituent of mine, I…uh…came up to me, uh and…and wanted to know why she was…um, uh able to…”
Rep. Comey then stood silent for a few seconds, continuing with:
“Excuse me, um, I had to tell her that, uh, that she was um…um.”
Once again, Rep. Comey was silent for several seconds, continuing with:
“Can I [unintelligible] that didn’t offer support. Um, that the yellow program that, um, through the shoreline is all education. And I was wondering if this is an opportunity for her to um…um…uh.”
Silence ensues for 10 seconds, then Rep. Comey continues with:
“Opportunity to, for her, to um…understand that she was able to, um…I’m sorry.”
At this point, the House Chamber was told to stand at ease, and a few of Rep. Comey’s colleagues came to her side to figure out what exactly was happening.
Rep. Comey, days after the display on the House floor, issued a statement alleging “several factors” that led to her comments on the floor that made little to no sense:
“That evening, while speaking on H.B. 6558, I suddenly and unexpectedly began to feel unwell. This was due to several factors, including anxiety, exhaustion, and, regrettably, the wine I had with dinner. In an abundance of caution, I did not drive home and remained in Hartford until the following morning.”
According to former state lawmaker Kevin Rennie, who was the first to break the story, he says that numerous state lawmakers having been knocking back drinks while on the rooftop of the parking garage attached to the LOB:
“Some legislators are gathering on the roof of the parking building that’s attached to the Legislative Office Building and are drinking there.”
Reportedly, Democrat House Speaker Matt Ritter is not at all amused by the display of Rep. Comey, or the other lawmakers that have been allegedly drinking o the job:
“It’s fair to say that myself and [House Majority Leader] Jason [Rojas] have admonished people.
“I think the incidents are a little more isolated, maybe not as widespread as some might think, but there’s no question that we expect people to be adults, to understand the consequences of their decisions.”

State House Republicans have mostly placed the LOB off-limits to their party members, since House members have been vaccinated and thus infections rates in the state have calmed considerably.
Since there seems to be an issue with drinking on rooftops of adjacent buildings to the LOB, Democrat House Majority Leader is considering of barring his party from accessing the LOB as well:
“At this point, all things are on the table. The message was sent loud and clear over the Memorial Day weekend, and so far, things have held tight, but I have my staff, extra staff, over the LOB right now. And if we have to make additional modifications, we will. We’re taking this very, very seriously.”

In other matters stemming from Connecticut, Law Enforcement Today reported on a case in March regarding a mother who was “so excited” after she allegedly killed her 4-year-old son.
Here’s that previous report.
CONNECTICUT– A mother in Connecticut killed her four-year-old son earlier this month, and then told police she felt excited after doing it. The 33-year-old woman, who allegedly smelled like marijuana, reportedly strangled her son, and tried stuffing his mouth with CBD gummies.
The Hartford Courant reported that on Tuesday, March 23rd, an arrest warrant affidavit was unsealed, which outlined that Tiffany Farrauto told New London police officers that she killed her four-year-old son, David Jasmin, in their apartment on March 7th.
— New York Post (@nypost) March 25, 2021
According to the affidavit, Farrauto said:
“You can take me away … because my son is already dead and is in the house,”
Police were drawn to Farrauto’s home when reports came in of a woman smashing a car in a parking lot around 6:30 a.m. According to reports, when they approached her, she indicated that she had harmed her son and he was in their apartment, according to New London Police Chief Peter Reichard.
That is when police discovered Farrauto’s son on the bed, with his lips and face already blue. Officer performed CPR before transporting the boy to a local area hospital.
The affidavit shows that CBD gummies were found thrown around the room, including on the bed, and across the boys chest.
Chief Reichard said:
The New York Post reported that the boy, who had lacerations across his chest and marks on his neck, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Farrauto admitted to killing her son while in the back of a police car, the records show.
The affidavit states that without prompting, Farrauto stated to police officers:
“I did it,”
She went on to say:
“I [expletive] did it! I just killed my son … I’m so excited about it, too. I never thought I would do that.”
The woman also allegedly told police that she killed her only son to “get back at her mother”, in addition to making several references to the Bible while claiming she had been a victim of a sexual assault, the affidavit states.
Farrauto, is being held on $2 million bond after being charged with murder and risk of injury to a minor.

According to reports, on Tuesday, March 23rd, a judge ordered Farrauto to spend 60 days at a maximum-security psychiatric hospital after her initial mental health evaluation found her incompetent to stand trial.
Farruato is scheduled to return to court on May 20, 2021.
The New York Post reported that a funeral for David Jasmin was held last weekend. Friends of Farrauto have said she had not been previously diagnosed with a mental illness to their knowledge.
A friend of Farruato’s, Jennifer Ostby told the Courant earlier this month:
“This is just a shock, I don’t think we’re ever going to understand,”
She went on to say:
“Even if she explains, I don’t think we’ll ever understand. How do you ever understand anything like that?”
