Chicago official suggests people blow whistles, run towards armed thugs to “scare off” criminals

CHICAGO, IL- Who knew you could scare off people who want to blow your head off by blowing a whistle? This is a game-changer for crime fighting! How do clowns like this get elected?

In Chicago, an alderman (or “alderperson) is suggesting her constituents wear whistles, which they would then blow while running toward thugs armed with firearms if they witness a crime taking place. No, this is not an article from the Babylon Bee.

Breitbart reports that according to CWBChicago, alderman Michele Smith from the city’s Ward 43 is actually suggesting the city return to a 1970s era “WhistleStop Program,” which was apparently a thing in Chicago’s Lincoln Park back then.

Smith sent an email out about the program as follows:

“The WhistleStop program follows these rules…If you find yourself in a suspicious situation or witness a crime, blow your whistle. If you hear a whistle, call the police, then move toward the source while blowing your own whistle.” [emphasis added]

Yes, she is actually encouraging her constituents to move toward someone committing a crime. She makes the absurd observation that if you blow a whistle while running at a criminal, it “forces the offender to flee and helps police pinpoint the location of the crime.”

We’re not sure if Ms. Smith has seen any videos of the gang banger shootings in her city, but criminals don’t run away when they’re being shot at, let alone when some dupe is blowing a whistle at them.

Oh, and Smith also wants to make sure that if any of the brain-dead constituents who might participate in this ill-fated program want a whistle, they make sure to get “good” whistles, according to FOX 32.

“Something that can be really loud. Whistles that can be used in sports, camping safety, are the kind of people that we recommend people get,” Smith said.

She also told her constituents they should “comply” with criminals if they find themselves targeted for criminal acts.

“We expressly direct people: if you are the victim of crime, cooperate. Do not resist. And certainly don’t blow your whistle if someone has a gun pointed at your head,” Smith said.

This lady is a stone-cold genius.

The initial incarnation of the WhistleStop program of course was in the 1970s, long before 99.9% of people had a cellphone in their pockets.

In 2022, it is pretty simple to get on your iPhone and dial 911 and talk to a real person to tell them where the crime is occurring. And do you know what? You can probably do that without making yourself a target.

The clueless suggestion that people who are potential witnesses to a crime blowing a whistle to attract attention to themselves is bizarre, and we might add dangerous.

Gang bangers don’t think twice about holding up groups of people at a time, or running into stores and smashing display cases while stealing expensive merchandise. You think they’d think twice about blowing somebody away who was stupid enough to blow a whistle in the midst of a crime?

As CWBChicago noted, a majority of robberies which occur on the north side of the city involve armed thugs who do not think twice about using violence. Why would anyone, as they suggest, recommend running toward a potentially violent situation?

So how will this whole thing work out? CWBChicago said that only six days after Smith announced her ridiculous program, crews of armed robbers shot two men in separate robberies in the Boystown section of Chicago.

As the outlet noted, Smith is well acquainted with bizarre crime-fighting ideas, noting she had:

  • This past fall suggested constituents in her ward to purchase an official Chicago Police Department “blue light” surveillance camera for the low, low price of only $25,000;
  • After police banned parking along a street near the Lincoln Park Zoo after a shooting, Smith claimed it produced “great results,” and made the claim it had resulted in a drop in “serious crime,” however CPD’s data showed no such improvement.
  • She claimed in 2014 in response to citizen concerns about police staffing levels that they just weren’t seeing it, claiming they were the “invisible police.”
  • She has also falsely claimed increases in police manpower in two districts in her ward, overstating the true amount by nearly 50%

Whistles to scare off criminals…now we’ve heard it all.

CHICAGO, IL- Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot refuses to take the blame for increased crime and lootings in the city, instead blaming not the criminals but business owners, Gateway Pundit reports.

According to Fox Business:

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot blamed retailers for not making safety a priority amid a string of smash-and-grab thefts at retail stores in recent months.

“We still have retailers that won’t institute plans like having security officers in their stores, making sure that they’ve got cameras that are actually operational, locking up their merchandise at night, chaining high-end bags. These purses can be something that is attracting a lot of organized retail theft units,” Lightfoot said Monday.

Rob. Karr, the president and CEO of the Illinois Retail Merchants Association, said Chicago businesses need the ‘finger pointing among leadership to stop.”

Groups of looters in masks have stormed stores in orchestrated plots to steal thousands of dollars worth of merchandise in downtown Chicago and the city’s suburbs.

Did you get that? It’s the purses that are attracting organized theft. Even those walking out of stores with Air Jordans and leather jackets…just caught up among the purses apparently.

Breitbart noted that Lightfoot prefaced her above comment by expressing her disappointment in some retailers.

“Some of the retailers downtown in Michigan Avenue. I will tell you, I’m disappointed that they are not doing more to take safety and make it a priority,” she said.

So it’s the merchant’s fault. It’s not Lightfoot’s gutting of the Chicago Police Department, forcing members out if they refuse to take the jab.

It’s not the fault of District Attorney Kim Foxx, who has apparently made it her life’s mission to release virtually every criminal who enters the justice system in Cook County, home of Chicago.

It’s the retailers’ fault that when Foxx does actually press charges, those rarely see any significant time in jail.

As noted by John Nolte in Breitbart, it’s not the fault of Chicago Democrats who have been running the city for probably a century virtually unopposed in any real significant way.

Lightfoot, who is always in the running as the worst mayor in the U.S. instead blames store owners, whom she insinuates should either “create a private police force, lock up all their merchandise, or stop attracting crime with all their fancy merchandise,” Nolte proposes.

Of course, it is absolutely correct that as Nolte notes it is the highest priority, the number one job of government to protect the rights of its citizens.

Yet, Lightfoot, instead of blaming the criminals and turning inward and blaming policies of politicians such as herself instead turns and deflects the blame to the victims, in tis case the store owners.

Nolte rightly proposes that it isn’t necessary to lock everyone up in order to put a dent in the crime rate, only that the right people are locked up, proposing that if incarceration rates were increased by only five percent…the correct five percent, you could impact the crime rate by around 20 to 25 percent.

He is likely correct.

Statistics have shown that only 1% of the population are responsible for 63% of all the violent crime in the U.S.. according to the National Institutes of Health. So obviously it isn’t necessary, as Nolte said to lock everyone up…only the right people.

That isn’t how its working however in cities from New York to Chicago to Los Angeles and every Democrat-run city in between.

Thanks to bail reform and criminal justice reform, Democrats are letting everyone go, no matter the crime from petty shoplifting all the way through to murder.

You see it every day where someone who was released from custody for a violent crime sometimes within a matter of days…even hours sometime…reoffends.

Nolte rightfully observes that clearly retailers are also responsible to protect themselves, and in many cases they have. Unfortunately in more than a few cases, that protection, in the form of security officers or extra duty police officers, have found themselves becoming victims of crime.

That isn’t what Lightfoot is suggesting. He’s telling retailers to basically lock up their high-end merchandise and increase their private security forces.

That of course has been tried in some cases in cities, where attractive merchandise has been locked up, such as baby formula, razor blades, batteries and ethnic products, however those retailers have been met with allegations of racism. They can’t win.

It is of course convenient to blame the police for some of this, but they can only do so much. Nolte notes that out of the criminals running amuck in Chicago, it is likely the police have dealt with most of them at one time or another.

They do their jobs, arresting them only to see the courts and politicians such as Kim Foxx, beholden to the far-left of her constituency and George Soros’ money, release them. Constantly.

All of this has led to people who are inclined toward criminal activity to have no fear of being locked up in jail. “If you remove the consequences, you are essentially legalizing criminal behavior,” Nolte said.

He is 100% correct.

Retail theft isn’t the only issue and Chicago isn’t the only place that it’s occurring. Homicide records across the country, many of which were set only one year ago, were broken again this year.

In fact, twelve cities in the country…all not so ironically run by Democrats have broken their own homicide records.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, and in fact has been widely predicted among law enforcement officials and media outlets such as Breitbart, Law Enforcement Today, and others predicted.

We, like Nolte, have no problem with common sense criminal justice reform. However that should not include failure to prosecute anyone. That’s not bad policy, it’s insanity.

We hate to say we told you so, but we told you so. This was warned about and ignored, a classic case of Newton’s Third Law…for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This applies to physics and it applies to the criminal justice system as well. You keep all the criminals out of jail, you get more crime.

It is a concept that Lori Lightfoot, Kim Foxx, and the rest of the Democrats have yet to learn. It is not, however lost on the American people.

CHICAGO, IL- On the evening of October 25th, protesters gathered outside Chicago City Hall demanding city council members take action against Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s vaccine mandate as well as limit the mayor’s power to enact sweeping policy changes when it comes to disciplining city employees who defy her rules.

According to Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown, nearly 23 Chicago police officers have already been stripped of their police powers and placed on unpaid leave due to the mayor’s vaccine mandate.

During the protest outside City Hall ahead of the city council meeting, Chicago Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) President John Catanzara, said:

“This is not the way a government is supposed to run. It is not a queen on that throne. It is a mayor.”

In late August, Catanzara was forced to apologize after issuing a profanity-laced tirade comparing the mayor’s vaccine mandate to restrictions imposed in Nazi Germany during the Holocaust. In an apology video on YouTube, Catanzara explained his offensive comparison, saying:

“When governments, whether its Nazi Germany or modern-day Chicago, try to start, or any other major city like New York and many others who are doing this, try to create policies that mandate their employees first to have to do things to their bodies it will not stop there. You are opening up the door for the citizens to be next.”

On October 25th, outside City Hall, Catanzara told city council members:

“You can hate me. You can hate my message, but the vaccine showdown is about the entire city workforce. Not the Chicago Police Department. Not even the FOP and it’s not about me.”

He added:

“Everybody hated when Richie Daley decided to bulldoze Meigs Field in the middle of the night because he thought it was the right thing to do. Shame on him.

One person should not have that kind of power. Everybody hated when Rahm Emanuel got rid of retiree health care at the stroke of a pen and laughed about it because he thought it was the right thing to do and it wasn’t”

The FOP president continued:

“For far too long now, everybody sitting in those chairs, whether it’s you or your predecessors, have allowed this to continue on generation after generation. It needs to stop today. This tyrant at the top needs to stop what she’s doing.”

An ordinance introduced on October 25th would reverse Lightfoot’s mandate, would provide retroactive pay to officers who have been placed on unpaid leave, and would require full city council approval for any police changes that could put city employees on unpaid leave status in the future.

Unsurprisingly, the mayor denounced the effort as “foolishness” and said she will do everything in her power to shoot it down.

Catanzara warned the city council that their jobs are also on the line and that those who do not back the repeal effort “will be challenged in 2023.” He added:

“We are coming for every one of your damn seats because this is not the way a government is supposed to run. Shame on every one of you. When she challenged your aldermanic prerogative, you all lost your mind.”

As of October 25th, approximately 71 percent of Chicago Police Department (CPD) personnel had reported their vaccination status to the city as Lightfoot required. Nearly 20 percent of those who responded said they are not vaccinated.

City council members and staff have the second-lowest compliance rating, with just 85 percent having reported their vaccination status.

Lightfoot has also lashed out at Chicago Alderwoman Silvana Tabares for her support of the proposed mandate-repealing ordinance, accusing her of being a puppet for Catanzara, who the mayor claimed “spewed hate” against Tabares’ Hispanic constituents. Lightfoot said:

“She knows very well this will never see the light of day. But, the fact that she’s willing to put her name on it is … dangerous. That is not reflective of her community.”

The mayor added:

“It’s really stunning to me that a woman of color would carry the water for a guy like that, who every single day spews hatred against people who look like her and have her background. It is really, really shameful and she’ll have to answer for that.”

The proposed ordinances were sent to the Rules Committee during the meeting on October 25th, which has been described as a “burial ground” for legislation Lightfoot opposes.
