Op-ed: It’s time to charge this list of governors with involuntary manslaughter after countless nursing home deaths

NEW YORK- While much of the media has had their focus on slimy New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s sexual harassment of female staffers and other assorted young females, attention has been diverted away from what Cuomo should be getting investigated for…putting COVID positive patients into nursing homes, and then trying to cover up the death toll.

It’s almost as if this is some type of operation designed to do just that. Remember how it is with politicians…especially Democrats. When they’re showing you the right hand, look out for what the left hand is doing.

Cuomo is of course in big trouble. He is up for reelection next year, and he has two major scandals hanging over his head…sexual harassment of women and a slew of dead elderly patients in nursing homes.

The other issue Cuomo has is that basically the Democrats no longer need him. When President Trump was in the White House, they needed a political foil, and Cuomo was the perfect useful idiot. After all, he’s the governor of one of the country’s most populous states and besides, New York was one of the states hardest hit by the coronavirus.

With a complicit media continuously giving him tongue baths, in particular his brother Fredo on CNN, Cuomo became the darling of the anti-Trump mob. He is brash, rude, and an egomaniac. He was the perfect counterpoint to Trump.

Now of course, Democrats have their resident demented president in Joe Biden, so Cuomo has become expendable. Add to that the fact that rumors are running that New York State’s resident Brooklyn dingbat, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may decide to primary him instead of the state’s other egomaniac Chuck Schumer for his senate seat and Cuomo must feel the walls closing in.

As serious as the allegations of sexual harassment are, the fact that Cuomo sentenced thousands of our greatest generation to death is much more serious.

And lest we forget, Cuomo isn’t the only Democrat governor who did so. In fact, if Cuomo is to go down for the nursing home deaths, at least four other governors should go down with him.

Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Gavin Newsom of California, Phil Murphy of New Jersey, and Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania all did the same thing Cuomo did. The difference? Cuomo also sexually harassed at least three women.

This is not a defense of Cuomo by any means, but in the case of one of his accusers, Lindsey Boylan, a Bernie Sanders supporter appears to be on its face a little suspicious based on its timing.

Boylan for example is not a political novice. She once tried to primary of all people Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), claiming he didn’t go after Trump hard enough during his impeachment charade. She is currently running for borough president in Manhattan.

What of Assemblyman Ron Kim? He is a major supporter of Sanders, who rides in the same radical wing as AOC. While Kim did raise the issue of Cuomo’s ill-fated order putting COVID patients into nursing homes, according to journalist David Greenfield, Kim Is more focused on facilitating lawsuits against those same nursing homes.

And what of New York Attorney General Letitia James, who clearly has political aspirations above her current office. She has engaged in high-profile wars with the NRA and former President Trump, having ignored the nursing home scandal until she smelled Cuomo’s blood in the air and began a late focus on the nursing home scandal.

Late to the game, James started her “investigation” months after the Trump administration’s DOJ launched the investigation which led to Cuomo’s attempted coverup last summer.

James now feels she is THE person to investigate Cuomo’s sexual harassment dalliances. Having Cuomo investigated by his likely political rival seems to smell just a bit bad.

While clearly Cuomo’s initial suggestion that he appoint someone to investigate him was ridiculous, so to having James investigate him as his political opponent is bizarre.

James of course had famously signed off on a ridiculous settlement officer with serial rapist Harvey Weinstein whereby his victims would have received a whopping $10,000 check, however it would have also covered Weinstein’s legal fees.

Once again this is NOT a defense of Cuomo’s sexual harassment, but the timing of these allegations just seems a bit…weird.

And what of the other four governors who sentenced their elderly to death?

In California, Newsom’s ill-advised order caused around 9,000 coronavirus deaths in that state’s nursing facilities. Under Newsom’s order, nursing homes in California were told that they “shall not refuse to admit or readmit a resident based on their status as a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case.”

At the time of Newsom’s order, the executive director of California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform, Patricia McGinnis said, “California’s directive is nothing less than a death sentence for countless residents.”

Newsom is currently under the gun of a recall petition, which has gathered more than enough signatures to force a recall election. Aside from the nursing home scandal, Newsom’s hard-assed emergency orders have angered California residents, along with the fact that he has been caught at least two times busting his own orders.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, clearly one of the least likeable governors in the country due to her smarmy, condescending demeanor is also facing recall efforts, and like Cuomo is up for reelection in 2022.

Whitmer ordered that a “long-term care facility must not prohibit admission or readmission of a resident based on COVID-19 testing requirements or results.”

That state saw over 5,600 coronavirus deaths in nursing homes, which has caused Michigan Republicans to call for an investigation. Of course Democrats and their media sycophants in Michigan have opposed it.

What of New Jersey and Pennsylvania? In New Jersey, Murphy’s dictates sent around 8,000 seniors in nursing homes to their death.

In Pennsylvania, the Department of Health under Joe Biden’s new Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services, Rachel (don’t call me Rick) Levine saw 12,000 deaths in nursing homes from COVID.

Oh, to make matters there much worse, Levine removed his/her mother from a nursing home while forcing them to admit patients after doing so. But that was Biden’s pick for a key administration post. Go figure.

Cuomo clearly needs to go, but not because of a sexual harassment deal. As mentioned above, the timing of this whole thing is extremely suspicious.

As big of a scumbag that Cuomo is, the sexual harassment of three female staffers pales in comparison to literally being responsible for deaths of over 10,000 people, which is being lost in all the hoopla over the harassment allegations.

While Cuomo should go down, and in fact be criminally charged for all of those nursing home deaths, the other four Democrat governors should go down with him.

As Greenfield says, 35,000 to 40,000 deaths of elderly nursing home patients among five states displayed a pattern of behavior among these five governors who were more focused on keeping hospitals clear no matter what.

And in the case of New York and California it’s even more egregious because each state was given a Navy hospital ship to help with overflow and to relieve hospital capacity. New York in particular is even worse because they also had the Javits Center in New York City that went basically unused.

Greenfield also notes that all five governors also apparently have ties to the hospital lobby, and this also led to slower rollouts of vaccines in those states.

Compare what happened in these five states, led by Democrats to what happened in Flint, Michigan, where the water crisis led to nine deaths, and for which former Republican Gov. Rick Snyder, as well as the former head of Health and Human Services in that state were indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter.

So that begs the question. If Snyder can be charged with involuntary manslaughter for nine deaths, is it inconceivable that Cuomo, Whitmer, Murphy, Newsom and Wolf (and probably Levine) should also be charged with involuntary manslaughter?

Early in this pandemic, it was made clear that the most vulnerable to the virus were the elderly and those with underlying health conditions and comorbidities.

Yet we had at least five governors and one person who somehow earned a high-ranking position in Biden’s White House who purposefully put those vulnerable people in danger through incompetence.

With Biden in charge and a Democratically appointed attorney general, the odds of any type of investigation or accountability are unlikely. And that’s a travesty.
