WEST ORANGE, N.J. – An ambulance, a firetruck, a police SUV, a dump truck and more have been involved in a massive collision on a New Jersey highway that has landed at least two state troopers in the hospital.
NBC reported that aerial footage from the scene showed at least a half-dozen vehicles involved in the wreckage.
Emergency crews received an en masse call to the scene just after 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. The pileup occurred just off of exit 9 on Interstate 280 in West Orange.
New Jersey law enforcement authorities confirmed that two NJ state troopers were investigating the scene of a crash on the side of the roadway just before the second crash occurred.

They say that without warning, a Mack dump truck barreling down the highway smashed into the back of the troopers’ SUV. Both troopers were injured and were taken to a local hospital to be treated. Reports noted that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Multiple emergency vehicles were mangled in the wreckage. The dump truck flipped onto its right side, with the impact appearing to send the SUV into an ambulance, which then crashed into the firetruck stationed in front of it.
Video shows that those weren’t the only vehicles involved, however. A food truck appeared to sit disabled in the middle of the roadway and a civilian van with a ladder attached to it is sitting facing the wrong direction.
Other vehicles are off the side further down the road. It’s unclear whether they were involved in the accident.
Police are still investigating the scene of the crash and are attempting to determine the details involved.
