VIDALIA, La. – The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that an officer has been shot and that deputies are currently engaged in a tense standoff with the armed assailant.

According to a multitude of reports, police have been involved in a standoff with the armed suspect who has barricaded themselves inside a residence in Vidalia, Louisiana. 

KALB News reported that there is a large police presence surrounding the Vidalia Meadows apartment complex. 

There were confirmed reports that a deputy had been struck by at least one round from the gunman, but it is not clear how that officer is doing at this time, nor has it been announced which department the officer works with.

 

The deputy who was shot has not been identified.

Residents who live inside the apartment complex said that they are not being allowed to enter their homes at this time. According to the sheriff’s office, Adam’s County Sheriffs, Natchez PD, Vidalia PD, and Ferriday PD are assisting. 

Authorities say that there is only one suspect and that the incident has been contained to the apartment complex.

Around 2:00 p.m. the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office posted the following message on social media.

“The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with Adam’s County Sheriffs, Natchez PD, Vidalia PD and Ferriday PD are currently working a standoff at Rivers Meadow Apartments in Vidalia, La. The situation has been contained to one apartment in the complex.”
