DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – A massive manhunt is underway in a Georgia neighborhood for an armed suspect who allegedly shot a police officer multiple times early on Thursday.

Police say that DeKalb County police officers responded to a residence in Hodgdon Corners Cove just after 1:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. The call was in regard to a domestic shooting in which the suspect had reportedly shot and killed his girlfriend.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they were ambushed.

DeKalb police Maj. Jerry Lewis said the officers were “immediately fired on” when they got to the residence.

Reports noted that during the unprovoked attack, one of the officers was shot and struck multiple times by gunfire.

Police say that they are now on the hunt for 27-year-old Otis Walker, who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend before police arrived in the Lithonia neighborhood.

After opening fire on the responding police, Walker reportedly took off, managing to escape police custody at the time.

The injured officer went down, but witnesses allegedly sprung into action to try and save the officer’s life.

“That’s when I put my car in park and was helping that officer,” neighbor Cleveland Dollison said. “They laid him down in the neighbor’s yard, she came out, we got towels, and we just tried to help, do what we could.”

The good Samaritans put a tourniquet around the officer’s leg, potentially saving him from bleeding out.

Walker is being referred to as “armed and dangerous,” and anyone with information on the suspect is encouraged to contact DeKalb County authorities.

Court records show that Walker had just been released on bond on July 13. (DeKalb County)

SWAT officers, police and members of the fire department swarmed the area on Thursday morning, looking for any sign of where Walker may have escaped to.

WSBTV reported that Walker had just been released from bond on July 13 and had been previously arrested in 2018 for battery and family violence.

Police said that the unidentified injured officer was immediately transported to the hospital to be treated for his wounds. The injuries were reported to be non life-threatening. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Officials are now offering a $10,000 reward for information that led to the apprehension of the suspected murderer. Contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
