BOCA RATON, Fla. – Police in Boca Raton, Florida have responded to reports of a possible active shooter inside the Town Center Mall on Sunday afternoon.

While there have been no confirmed reports of the shooter or potential victims, multiple news outlets are reporting that the building has been evacuated as law enforcement officials secure the area.

The Boca Raton Police Department confirmed reports of the shooting via Twitter.


Videos taken at the scene show a large police presence within the area.


Another video shows heavily armed officers heading toward the entrance of the mall as hundreds of people scrambled to get clear of the area. The group entered in order to sweep the area.


Police have yet to confirm whether there is an ongoing threat. Reports of the shooting came in just after 3 p.m. on Sunday, but no injuries or casualties have been confirmed.

Witnesses at the mall said that they heard what sounded like gunfire from inside the food court area. Everyone immediately began to run.


One Twitter user claimed to have spoken with his brother who was reportedly at the mall when he heard gunshots break out. Another man was reportedly trampled by the stampede of fleeing civilians. Reporters at the scene say he required medical attention. 


Another video from inside the mall showed terrified customers running to find an exit.


Police are asking everyone in the vicinity to stay clear of the area while emergency teams manage to lock down and clear the mall building.


A video seemed to show an injured person lying on the ground next to a cruiser, but it’s not yet known whether they are a victim or suspect.


One video appeared to show blood on the ground as people fled the building.


Unconfirmed reports suggested that police may have two shooters in custody.


ATF Miami is on the way to assist at the scene.
