BALTIMORE, Md. – Police have just confirmed that a member of the Baltimore City Police Department has been rushed to the hospital after sustaining at least one gunshot wound.

Authorities have responded to the 2100 block of Maryland Ave, where a total of three people have been injured by gunfire, including the officer.

The location of the reported shooting is a treatment clinic that specializes in substance abuse and mental health disorders. Witnesses say that a man inside the clinic pulled out a gun and opened fire after reportedly receiving his medicine.

The Baltimore City PD confirmed the officer involved shooting on Twitter Monday morning. They said that the suspect was also down.

FOX45 reported that the veteran officer was shot below the vest. That officer was then rushed to Shock Trauma. His or her condition is not known at this time.

Police are asking civilians to avoid the area and to expect road closures while the investigation into the shooting plays out.

The department confirmed that a press briefing offering more details on the shooting will be held outside of Shock Trauma medical center.

The shooting took place in North Baltimore. Sources say that the clinic is a methadone treatment center.

News crews flooded the scene after the Baltimore Firefighters Union tweeted about some of the details of the shooting just before 8 a.m. on Monday.

The Baltimore Sun noted that in a recorded messaging system, the clinic billed itself as one of the longest-running medical treatment facilities in the city.
