UPDATE 4:02pm: The gunman has been apprehended and taken into custody. He was reportedly armed with a handgun.

AURORA, Ill. – The Kane County Sheriff has confirmed reports of an active shooter situation unfolding in Aurora, Illinois at the Henry Pratt Company, ABC 7 Chicago reported.

Aurora Police is on the scene with reports of at least 30 squad cars in the area.

A source within the law enforcement field reportedly claimed that Kane County’s SWAT team has been deployed from as well as the U.S Marshal’s Task Force. An employee from Henry Pratt claimed that the shooter was a coworker.

Additionally, the source claimed that as many as 4 Aurora police officers have been injured and that the shooter remains at large.

There are unconfirmed reports that at least one civilian has died and multiple victims are being airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

Businesses and schools in the area have been either been evacuated or put into lockdown. School District 129 sent the following notification to parents of students.

Just before 2:30pm, a number of SWAT officers were spotted outside of the building. An employee from Henry Pratt managed to escape safely but believes some of her coworkers may have been injured in the incident.

“There are reports of an active shooter at the Henry Pratt building near Cleveland and Prairie just east of Luigi’s Pizza, as a result, we are holding all district students in place for their safety, there is a police presence in the area. Per directions from the county sheriff, the District has been advised to go into soft lockdown situation across the district. Teaching will continue with reduced movement. Normal operations will resume when the soft lockdown has been lifted. No one will be allowed to leave or enter our buildings until the lockdown has been lifted.”
