Chicago Police braved the ice and freezing cold this morning to rescue a dog stranded on the ice at South Lake Shore Drive on the harbor. Witnesses called the police after they tried to help the black dog, but were unsuccessful. Police donned cold weather gear and tethered themselves before trying to reach the frightened animal. They were unsuccessful as the dog meandered around skittishly. After animal control officers tranquilized the canine, marine patrol officers moved back in to remove the canine from the ice.
