Border escalation: 25 state governors support Texas; 10 states have deployed troops and law enforcement officers

EAGLE PASS, TX— The ongoing border dispute between the state of Texas under Governor Greg Abbott and the U.S. Federal Government under President Joe Biden escalated Thursday when a group of 25 Republican-led states co-signed a letter supporting Texas.

In a statement posted to Truth Social later in the day, former President Donald J. Trump urged all "willing States to deploy their guards to Texas to prevent the entry of Illegals." At least ten states have already sent troops and/or law enforcement to assist.

As previously reported by Law Enforcement Today, the Texas National Guard seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass on January 11th, preventing ICE and Border Patrol agents from entering the area according to federal officials. The U.S. Border Patrol had previously used the park as a staging area to hold illegal immigrants before transporting them throughout the country.

According to The Texas Tribune, the Supreme Court of the United States ordered in a 5-4 ruling that Texas authorities were required to pull back and allow federal agents access to the border. Subsequently, Governor Abbott announced his intention to refuse the order as unconstitutional in a statement posted to X. He wrote in part that the Biden administration's willful failure to "protect each [State] against invasion," as required by Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution, "triggered Article I, § 10, Clause 3, "which reserves to this State the right of self-defense."

Abbott added, "I have already declared an invasion under Article I, § 10, Clause 3 to invoke Texas's constitutional authority to defend and protect itself. That authority is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary."

This was followed by a joint statement from 25 Governors who asserted that due to the Biden administration's failure to stop "historic levels of illegal immigrants, deadly drugs like fentanyl, and terrorists entering our country, Texas has a constitutional right to defend itself and the nation."

The governors together stated, "We stand in solidarity with our fellow Governor, Greg Abbott, and the State of Texas in utilizing every tool and strategy, including razor wire fences, to secure the border. We do it in part because the Biden Administration is refusing to enforce immigration laws already on the books and is illegally allowing mass parole across America of migrants who entered our country illegally."

The governor's added, "The authors of the U.S. Constitution made clear that in times like this, states have a right of self-defense, under Article 4, Section 4 and Article 1, Section 10, Clause 3 of the U.S. Constitution. Because the Biden Administration has abdicated its constitutional compact duties to the states, Texas has every legal justification to protect the sovereignty of our states and our nation.”

Responding to the situation via TruthSocial, former President Donald J. Trump called upon willing states to deploy their respective National Guard units to Texas to reinforce them.

Trump wrote:

"When I was President, we had the most secure Border in History. Joe Biden has surrendered our Border, and is aiding and abetting a massive Invasion of millions of Illegal Migrants into the United States. Instead of fighting to protect our Country from this onslaught, Biden is, unbelievably, fighting to tie the hands of Governor Abbott and the State of Texas, so that the Invasion continues unchecked. In the face of this National Security, Public Safety, and Public Health Catastrophe, Texas has rightly invoked the Invasion Clause of the Constitution, and must be given full support to repel the Invasion.

"We encourage all willing States to deploy their guards to Texas to prevent the entry of Illegals, and to remove them back across the Border. All Americans should support the commonsense measures by Texas authorities to protect the Safety, Security, and Sovereignty of Texas, and of the American people. When I am President, on Day One, instead of fighting Texas, I will work hand in hand with Governor Abbott and other Border States to Stop the Invasion, Seal the Border, and Rapidly Begin the Largest Domestic Deportation Operation in History. Those Biden has let in should not get comfortable because they will be going home."

In an interview with Tucker Carlson Friday, Governor Abbot said that ten of the supporting states have either sent National Guard or Law Enforcement units to support the Texas effort.

"There have been about 10 [states] so far that have sent National Guard or other law enforcement. They now are joined together with us and this is a fight for the future of America," Abbott said indicating that Texas' forces are "prepared" for a potential conflict with federal authorities that involves Biden attempting to Federalize the Texas National Guard.

Democrats are free to throw around and implement expulsion of a president so why haven’t impeachment proceeding begun for JR Biden? He is fragrantly going against the Constitution and causing danger to American government and citizens. Let’s get the show on the road. Impeach him! Take his powers away!
