During Tuesday night’s debate for the remaining candidates looking to unseat President Trump, 2020 wannabe Beto O’Rourke had a shocking declaration to the world about what he’d do in response to gun control.
Beto told viewers that AR-15 and AK-47 style rifles are a “potential instrument of terror” if they remain in the hands of private citizens.
According to a report from Breitbart, CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked the 2020 hopeful how he would plan on getting gun owners to give up their constitutional rights.
Beto says that good, law abiding Americans would step up and follow the law.
“I expect my fellow Americans to follow the law,” Beto said. “The same way we enforce any provision, any law that we have right now, we don’t go door to door to do anything to enforce the law. I expect Republicans, Democrats, gun owners, non-gun owners alike, to follow the law.”
Hold the freaking phone.
We all expect people to follow the law. But guess what, Beto? If everyone followed the LAW — we wouldn’t be having this conversation in the first place.
Who would end up turning their guns in? Law abiding citizens. The same ones who follow all the rules when it comes to gun safety. These aren’t the people you see on the nightly news. These aren’t the ones shooting up schools or public places.
While everyone is focused on taking “weapons of war” away from people, cities like Chicago, New York and Baltimore are becoming war zones themselves — except the ones using them to commit harm aren’t licensed for what they’re doing, they’re using stolen guns and illegal firearms. Do you really think those criminals are going to say, “Oh… well if these are illegal I just stop what I’m doing and turn it in,”?
No. Because laws don’t stop them from robbing and killing, so why would it stop them from anything else?
Every cop who reads his words is apt to spit their coffee out.
But I digress…
Anderson Cooper followed up his question with another. What would you do about Americans who refused to comply with a federal weapons ban?
“If someone does not turn an AR-15 or an AK-47, one of these weapons of war, or brings it out in public and brandishes it, in an attempt to intimidate…then that weapon will be taken from them. If they persist, there will be other consequences from law enforcement.”

Here’s another problem, Beto. Not only are you taking personal property and protection away from people who have done nothing wrong, now you’re asking cops – many of whom own guns themselves – to now go and enforce an unconstitutional law.
Would officers across America comply?
Maybe Beto needs to do some more studying up on his “potential instruments of terror” before banning rifles.
An excerpt from Reason pointed out some historic flaws with gun grabs.
“When New Jersey implemented a mandatory gun buyback program in the early 1990s, the state obtained a mere 18 guns of the estimated 100,000 to 300,000 firearms owned by Garden State residents—and only four were turned over voluntarily,” their report stated. “Australia’s much ballyhooed gun buyback program netted between 650,000 and 1 million firearms, about a quarter of the estimated number of guns owned by Australians at time. It is estimated that there are more than 350 million privately owned guns in the United States. Taking the rest would require a massive mobilization of federal, state, and local law enforcement.”
Reason’s article went on to challenge the assault weapons ban that’s slowly working its way through the government, saying it wouldn’t do anything.
“America had an assault weapons ban from 1994 through 2003, and it didn’t have any effect on the number of gun homicides in the country.”
Yet the candidates running against Trump are pushing hard for gun control – especially against rifles.
Which is odd, considering the FBI’s report from 2018 showed that over the course of the year, more people were killed by knives, hammers, clubs and even FEET — than rifles.
