Armed citizen comes to the rescue, saves Jewish family from attack after leaving synagogue

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL– An active investigation is taking place for an anti-Semitic incident that involved a Jewish Family in Miami. According to reports, a gun owner came to the family’s rescue.

Eric Orgen said he, his wife, and 16-year-old his daughter had just left a synagogue in Bal Harbour, which is a village located in Miami-Dade County, and were walking on the sidewalk when a group of men driving by started shouting and throwing garbage at them, Fox News reported.

When speaking about the incident, Orgen told WPEC-TV of West Palm Beach:

“They just started screaming some derogatory things towards Jewish people out the window,”

He added:

“My first thought was just making sure my wife and daughter were behind me so I could take the brunt of anything that was going to happen.”

Orgen told the station the men said things like, “Free Palestine!,” “Die Jew!” “F– you Jew,” and “I’m gonna rape your wife.”

According to Orgen, a man driving behind the vehicle witnessed the attack and jumped into action. The man pulled out his firearm and stepped between the vehicle and the family, causing the individuals in the car to drive off.

Orgen told WPEC-TV:

“The guy in the car behind them saw everything go on,”

He went on to say:

“I saw him pull a gun and get in between – I mean he was almost there as our guardian angel, just protecting us. I think once they saw him they just took off.”

One can only assume that this disgraceful attack comes as a direct result of the recent conflict between Israel and Gaza that has generated an alarming amount of open hatred against the Jewish community.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava released a statement on Wednesday denouncing recent anti-Semitic incidents.

Cava said:

Acts of hate and violence against any community are not tolerated in Miami-Dade County,”

Cava went on to say:

“As a member of the Jewish community and the first Jewish Mayor of Miami-Dade, acts of antisemitism in our County cut especially close to home. They also deepen my commitment to ensure Miami-Dade remains a place where all people are welcomed, respected, and made to feel at home, regardless of where they come from or their faith.”

Also on Wednesday, Bal Harbour Mayor Gabriel Groisman took to Facebook to report on the issue, and said that he has personally spoken to the victims, and that Bal Harbour Police were actively investigating the incident.

He went on to say that he was confident “they will track down the perpetrators.” Groisman then gave a strong message of “ZERO TOLERANCE” to anyone looking to commit such hate crimes.

He told WPEC-TV:

“The purpose of these attacks is clear,”

He went on to say:

“It’s to put fear into the Jewish community’s hearts, and to the perpetrators of this attack, they must know that they will fail. We’re a strong community and a proud community and we stand strong with Israel and no amount of attacks or intimidation is going to work.”

The Mayor also posted on Twitter, taking a stance that these individuals will not break the Jewish community because they are “proud” and “strong” people.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact Bal Harbour police officers at 305-866-5000 or Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.

NEW YORK CITY, NY- Despite the fact that Israel and Hamas militants agreed to a cease-fire, Pro-Palestinian protesters and Pro-Israel activists attacked each other on the streets of New York City on Thursday, May 20th. In one such altercation, an explosive device went off in the City’s Diamond District.

As shown on videos being circulated around social media, a device exploded after being thrown at a crowd of people on a midtown Manhattan sidewalk. The incident took place around 6:00pm near 37 west and 47th street.

The New York Police Department told Fox News that somebody had thrown two commercial fireworks from a car, and one person suffered minor burns.

The NYPD’s Arson Investigation Squad is said to be looking into the incident.

On Saturday, May 22, the NYPD posted a picture of the suspect on Twitter, with a post that read:

“Wanted for Assault (Hate Crime): On Thursday 5/20 at 6:00 pm, near 37 West and 47 Street, the below individual threw an explosive device from the back of a pickup truck which was detonated causing burns to a 55-year-old woman.”

Other videos posted by independent journalist Leeroy Johnson showed multiple fights breaking out in the middle of Times Square as police tried to dispel the scuffles, Fox News reported

On Friday, an NYPD spokesperson said that more than two dozen people were arrested in the clashes, and a gang assault against a Jewish man was under investigation as a hate crime, Associated Press reported.

The video of that incident showed a group of attackers, presumed to be part of the pro-Palestinian demonstrations, attacking a man on the ground, who is presumed to be Jewish.

The video shows some people standing there continuously kicking and hitting the man who is curled up on the floor, while others run in, kick or punch him, and run off like cowards, until police eventually intervened.

On Thursday night, the NYPD tweeted about the incident, saying:

“The Hate Crime Task Force is investigating a gang assault of a Jewish man in Times Square,”

Another group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators carrying Palestinian flags were captured on video attacking a group of diners on Thursday, American Military News reported.

Mayor Bill de Blasio weighed in on the situation on WNYC public radio, saying:

“It’s absolutely disgusting and unacceptable,”

He continued:

“We had a man viciously beaten simply because he appeared to some individuals to be Jewish. We had folks throwing very potent fireworks and creating harm to others and burning some folks, at least one person.”

Pro-Palestinian protesters have marched in America’s biggest cities for the last week and a half. Last Tuesday, thousands of protesters shut down traffic as they marched down 42nd Street in Manhattan, Fox News reported.

Violence escalated around Israel at the beginning of last week, with Hamas firing a reported 4,000 rockets and the Israeli air force launching airstrikes throughout the Gaza Strip.

On Thursday, a peace deal was announced between Israel and Hamas that Hamas said would take effect at 2 a.m. Friday, however that did not stop the violent attacks that plagued the streets of New York just hours after.
