There are violent protests planned involving supporters of the far-left Antifa movement in Portland on Saturday.  They plan on rallying against conservative groups.

And in preparation for them, the mayor had the leader of one of those conservative groups arrested on Friday.

Joey Gibson is the leader of Portland-based Patriot Prayer.  He turned himself into police for an arrest warrant for rioting, which comes from a violent clash in the city on May 1.

A short time later, he was later released after posting bail, with further legal action pending. But the message was made clear to him.

Gibson took to Facebook, accusing police of targeting conservative groups for arrests but not members of Antifa.

This, despite the countless masked Antifa supporters who have been seen on videos engaging in violence during past protests.

Those arrests came under order from the police commissioner, who happens to be the far left mayor of Portland.

According to Gibson, trying to intimidate conservatives who planned to protest Saturday.

“They want you to not show up in Portland, they want to put fear in your hearts,” Gibson said.

He again conservative protesters to refrain from violence Saturday.

Apparently 35-year-old Gibson was not connected to the events planned for Saturday, but reports said had organized Portland rallies that turned violent in 2017 and 2018.

A separate conservative group called the Oath Keepers has decided it will not participate Saturday. They said they didn’t believe organizers had done enough to discourage white supremacists from showing up.

Police, handcuffed by the mayor, have had their hands full trying to minimize the chances that Saturday’s demonstrations repeat the violence of past events.

According to the Associated Press, members from more than two-dozen law enforcement agencies – representing local, state and federal government – are involved in trying to maintain order during the demonstrations.

“I’m confident that from a law enforcement perspective, we’re going to have all the tools and the resources and personnel we need,” Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said Friday.

The Democrat mayor has been criticized nationally over the city’s handling of past protests.

Back in June, for example, conservative writer Andy Ngo was hospitalized after being attacked by Antifa supporters at a Portland demonstration.

Ngo went on Fox and Friends Friday, saying he is afraid Saturday’s event “has the potential to be a powder keg.”

Some of the steps being taken to prepare in Portland for Saturday include plans by many downtown businesses to close for the day.

Officials are also closing the Hawthorne Bridge, which connects eastern Portland to the downtown area, across the Willamette River.

Antifa, ironically, is flipping out about it.  These keyboard warriors say Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler is using fear to try and silence their opposition to the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer groups.

Wheeler recently came out to publicly warn activists to stay away from the city on August 17. He says that people are angry and looking for a battle… but they need to find it elsewhere. He’s finally taken a stand and given authorization to police to maintain order – by any means necessary.  Or so he says.

Some Antifa supporters say that the elected leader is using the city’s police force to silence their opposition to the group’s ideology.

“What’s even more unsafe is letting these movements go unopposed,” said Effie Baum, a spokesperson for a group that organizes left-wing rallies. “If we don’t go, they’re going to continue to grow and continue to come back. Honestly, the growing far-right movement is far more dangerous than the decision to show up and oppose it.”

Baum said that Wheeler’s tactics are allowing the right-wing groups to march unopposed.

“Their fear mongering will prevent people from showing up… it’s silencing folks,” Baum said. “We want to show that anti-fascists are not violent scary boogeyman, we’re just people that care about our community. And we’re united.”

This paints the picture of these groups as peaceful, caring individuals, when in fact their track record shows a different story.

“Mayor Wheeler has decided that the far-left is just as much as bad as the far-right,” a member of another far-left group said.

Well… have members of the far-right been labeled as domestic terrorists? Do members of the far-right continually attack and beat people in the street for having a different ideology?

It’s finally happening. Two Republican senators are pushing to label the anti-fascist group Antifa as “domestic terrorists”.

We’re not defending or condoning the actions of either group… but videos from these clashes have repeatedly shown the kind of violent aggression that largely seems to come from one side…

Chatter on social media has reportedly confirmed that both sides have spoken about carrying weapons during the downtown rally and counter-protest. So police won’t be taking any chances.

For the last few years, we’ve seen a huge number of outbreaks of chaos and violence in the streets as these groups clash. Videos surfaced showing the bloody attacks on journalists, protesters throwing projectiles like bottles and quick-drying cement at police and all out battles between opposing groups.

And until now, the city’s leader has basically told police to stand down.

Officers have literally been forced to stand idly by while these skirmishes turn the city into a battlefield.

But not this time. This time, police will not only be ready, but are empowered by their mayor, being given the support to fully uphold the law and order of the city.  Apparently.  We’ll see about that.

Did you know that Law Enforcement Today has a private new home for those who support emergency responders and veterans?  It’s called LET Unity, and it’s where we share the untold stories of those patriotic Americans.  Every penny gets reinvested into giving these heroes a voice.  Check it out today.

Below is the full statement from Mayor Wheeler:

“The City of Portland has proudly embraced the right to assembly and the right to free speech for generations.

Unfortunately, in recent years, extremists from across the political spectrum have used our city, our home to commit acts of violence while spreading their messages.

We have learned that on August 17th, groups plan on doing the same thing again.

Some, to spread hateful messages.

Some, with the explicit intent to commit violence.

In these politically-charged times, the stakes couldn’t be higher. This is why I continue to empower and direct the Portland Police Bureau to use whatever means necessary – and amass whatever resources necessary – to ensure public safety and to uphold the law.

This is the city I was born in. It’s the city I was raised in. It’s the city that I love. So hear me when I say this: The people who come to our beautiful city to commit acts of violence – and those who live here intent on doing the same – will be held accountable regardless of their political beliefs.

We have more resources, more partners, more coordination and greater resolve than ever before to back our unified message: Don’t spread hate and enact violence in Portland.

This is our city, this is our home.

Recent reports confirmed that Federal, state and local law enforcement are combining forces in the Oregon city in preparation for what some people are calling a ‘war’ in the streets.

The Portland Police Bureau released a statement noting that they would be ready for any criminal activity that was being planned.

“Based on publicly-available information, the Bureau is concerned events on August 17 may involve persons interested in participating in criminal activity.”

Chief Danielle Outlaw said that the violence that has previously taken over the streets of the west coast city won’t be tolerated this time around.

“There is concern about the criminal intentions being expressed in the publicly available forums which suggest some attendees plan to engage in violence,” PPB Chief Outlaw said. “We are taking this into account and developing an appropriate plan with adequate resources to prepare for this eventuality…. We will also be doing outreach to provide information to local businesses, residents, and visitors so they will know what to expect and the likely areas to be impacted.”

After seeing numerous violent outbreaks in the city limits of Portland, certain politicians – including the president – are pushing for the FBI to categorize masked Antifa members as domestic terrorists.

“Antifa are terrorists, violent masked bullies who ‘fight fascism’ with actual fascism, protected by Liberal privilege,” Senator Bill Cassidy recently remarked. “Bullies get their way until someone says no. Elected officials must have courage, not cowardice, to prevent terror.”

The moment a masked antifa person chased a man down the street with a knife was captured on a livestream by right-wing activist Haley Adams. Antifa had come together to patrol the street where the Portland “Border Resistance” training was happening.

He, along with Republican senators Ted Cruz and Bill Cassidy, has condemned the actions of the masked protesters.

Cruz called the group hateful, noting that they directly attacked others who share different mindsets or political views, often shutting down free speech.

“Antifa is a group of hateful, intolerant radicals who pursue their unhinged agenda through aggressive violence,” Sen. Cruz said. “Time and time again, their actions have demonstrated that their only purpose is to inflict harm on those who oppose their views. The hate and violence they spread must be stopped, and I am proud to introduce this resolution with Senator Cassidy to properly identify what Antifa are: domestic terrorists.”

Portland, Oregon, thinks of itself as a tolerant progressive city. Yet four weeks after a left-wing mob severely beat journalist Andy Ngo, there have been no arrests or charges for the assault.

Cruz recently asked the FBI to begin investigating Antifa cases similar to how RICO cases are handled. RICO cases look into Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations.

The FBI responded to Cruz and Cassidy’s statements in which it was noted that the bureau recognizes Antifa more as an ideology rather than a group.

“We have a quite a number though, I should tell you, of properly predicated investigations of what we categorize as anarchist extremists,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said. “People who are trying to commit violent criminal activity that violates federal criminal law and some of those people do subscribe as what we would refer to as a kind of an antifa-like ideology.”
