America under attack: Mainstream media, big corporations living in alternate reality and manipulating all of us (op-ed)

The following editorial is written by a retired Chief of Police and current contributing editor to Law Enforcement Today.

USA- Time was if you wanted to know what was going on in the world, you were able to turn on the evening news and watch Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, or Howard K. Smith and you’d get the straight story without political bias.

You could feel fairly certain that what you were watching was by and large factual. It has often been said that for example in the case of Cronkite, you never really knew what his political leanings were. That is no longer the case.

While there have been innumerable cases of media bias over say the past five years or so, more recent examples show how far off the rails the media has gone.

It is almost as if we are living in an alternate reality, where down is up, up is down, the truth is false and lies become truth. Nowhere has this been more obvious than how not only the news media but also corporations are dealing with the new voting law in Georgia.

If you tune into the mainstream media—and by that we mean NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and MSNBC, along with papers such as the New York Times and the Washington Post, an overwhelming majority of the reporting on the new law has been slanted to a degree where it might as well be issued on Stacey Abrams letterhead.

The reporting has been misleading—no, downright deceptive.

The lies of course have not only come from the media and corporations such as Major League Baseball, Coca Cola and Delta Airlines but also from the so-called “leader” of the free world—Joe Biden. .

The current occupant of the White House has adopted the mantra that the new law—which by the way is more progressive in some ways than the laws in his own state of Delaware—are “the new Jim Crow.”

Words such as this are of course designed to fire up the minority class in our country. They are intended to sow division.

Biden has referred to the new Georgia law as “sick” and “un-American.” In an overwhelming display of partisanship and having a political agenda, the national media has been slanting the coverage of the new Georgia law to fit the narrative put forth by Biden, as well as people such as Stacey Abrams, who by the way has still not conceded the 2018 Georgia governor’s race.

If you can find any type of straight news article that accurately describes what exactly is in the bill, good luck.

As The Federalist notes, writing such a clear, unbiased story containing factual information about the Georgia law is not difficult.

For example they cite an article posted by the Heritage Foundation which described the law in clear and dispassionate terms which clearly explained what the law does, and which eviscerates the claims by the mainstream media, woke corporations and far-left politicians that the law is any type of “voter suppression” law.

For example, much has been made of the requirement within the law that voters must present some type of identification in order to vote. The law requires that a voter present a Georgia license or a state-issued ID card, which is available to any Georgia resident at no charge, in order to vote.

If a voter is unable to get a license or state ID card, there are alternatives that can be used such as a utility bill or other proof of residence, or presentation of the last four numbers of a social security number. Such a requirement is already in place in states such as Connecticut.

So what is the issue? There isn’t one. As The Federalist notes, over 97 percent of voters in Georgia already possess either a driver’s license or state ID card. So how does this requirement in any way result in voter suppression? It doesn’t.

It has also been reported falsely that the new law eliminates so-called “drop boxes” where mail-in ballots can be dropped. That is a lie.

In fact, these drop boxes didn’t even exist in Georgia prior to last year; they were allowed in response to the coronavirus pandemic as a means to help residents who wanted to vote in the midst of the pandemic.

The new measure put them into the law—in effect codifying what was already being done, and provides a certain number of such drop-boxes in each county. Once again, this is something the media and corporatists are trying to portray as suppression, which it clearly is not.

Joe Biden claimed, as well as a number of others that Georgia’s new law prevents people from drinking water while waiting in line to vote.

First of all, if someone can point out someone who has died of thirst while in line waiting to vote we would love to hear about it, but moreover the law does nothing of the kind.

What the new law prevents is what is already in place in dozens of states, which is to prevent people from outside political groups from engaging in “electioneering”—that is distributing food and water at polling places in order to influence voters to cast their ballots in a particular way.

So in sum, there is nothing in this new law in Georgia which in any way prevents people from voting, or in fact impacts their ability to vote in any way whatsoever.

However that matters not to the media, woke corporations or Democrats.

In fact, one might say that by taking the position that this law will impact people of color disproportionately, the media, the woke companies and Democrats are taking the position that people of color are either too stupid or ignorant to obtain photo ID’s or read the law for themselves. This is of course absurd.

And what of these woke corporations and entities? For example in a widely-reported knee-jerk reaction to the law, Major League Baseball (MLB) moved the All-Star Game from Atlanta to Denver in protest of the “voter suppression” law.

What MLB in fact did is move the game from a city which has a population consisting of over 50% black to a city with over 75% whites.

MLB is costing businesses in Atlanta an estimated $150 million in revenue, an impact which will hit small and medium minority-owned businesses hardest. It will also impact those who work at the stadium, once again an overwhelming majority of whom are people of color.

Then we have Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola, where CEO’s from both companies outright lied when they issued statements opposing Georgia’s new law.

For example, the CEO of Coca-Cola, James Quincey made the false and misleading claim that the new law “makes it harder for people to vote, not easier.”

Delta’s CEO Ed Bastian basically parroted those words.

Other than pandering, there is really no other reason why these corporations would issue such clearly false statements. However it doesn’t matter because a complicit media complex, with very few exceptions, isn’t “fact-checking” those statements because they go along with the big lie. It furthers an agenda, and they are more than happy to play along.

Not to be outdone, United Airlines, which is not based in Georgia but decided to join the “land of the woke corporations” issued a statement last Monday which said, “Legislation that infringes on the right to vote of fellow Americans is wrong.”

Clearly, the social media team or whoever issued that statement on behalf of United has not read the legislation. However we suppose if you repeat a lie often enough and with enough conviction, it somehow becomes the truth.

The most ironic thing about companies such as Coca-Cola and Delta slamming the Georgia voter law as engaging in “voter suppression” is both company’s business relationship with the most “voter suppressive” country in the world…China.

Neither of those companies have issued statements regarding China’s human rights abuses of its own citizens, including the oppression of Muslim Uyghurs taking place in China’s Xinjiang Province.

Concerning Delta, they call themselves the “most Chinese-friendly U.S. airline” on their website, which also notes that China is “leading the way on international growth,” while also outlining a series of “recent investments tailored to travelers from China.”

“China is leading the way in international growth and Delta is committed to being the most Chinese-friendly U.S. airline,” Delta’s website reads. Also in a clear case of pandering to the Chinese Communist Party, Delta stopped referring to Taiwan as a country on their website, a clear bow to the CCP.

Coca-Cola is also heavily invested in China,  touting an investment of $4 billion in China for future growth from 2015 to 2017, building on $9 billion of investments made in the market since 1979,” according to their website.

Also last year, Coca-Cola, along with Apple lobbied to water down a bill which looked to prevent American companies from importing a number of goods from Xinjiang.

In other words, claims from companies such as Delta and Coca-Cola concerning suppression of anything are laughable at best and clearly the epitome of hypocrisy.

There are other countless examples of media and corporate bias. One such example of media bias is the incident at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, which has been classified as an “insurrection” by Democrats and the mainstream media.

The media continually harped about how the “insurrection” led to five people being “killed” as a result of the “violent mob” that “stormed” the Capitol.

Yet the facts of the incident do not bear that out. Yes, some ignorant people engaged in violent activity that day, and some police officers were injured. We are certainly not downplaying that aspect.

However the narrative that five people were “killed” during the siege is provably false. The only one who was killed at the U.S. Capitol that day was Ashli Babbitt, shot and killed ostensibly by a still unidentified Capitol police officer. How exactly is that investigation progressing? The media hasn’t asked.

Of the others that died that day, recent reports say one died of a drug overdose, two died of heart attacks, and the other, Officer Brian Sicknick died of causes which the FBI refuses to divulge, however it clearly was not a result of what happened at the Capitol.

That of course didn’t stop the New York Times from publishing a false narrative that Sicknick was “beaten over the head with a fire extinguisher” by Trump supporters.

All you need to know is that three and one-half months after the incident at the Capitol, not one person arrested or detained without charges (yes, that has happened) has been charged with treason or sedition. Most have only been charged with misdemeanor trespassing. Period.

By and large, with an estimated crowd of well over 10,000 people at the US Capitol on January 6, only several hundred have been charged with anything. It was overall, unlike the riots in Minneapolis and other cities last year, a peaceful protest.

Contrast the media reporting about the Capitol siege with what was going on last summer. We can never forget the CNN reporter who was talking about “largely peaceful” protests while a building was burning to the ground behind him.

The media, down with the revolution, downright lied about or justified what we were looking at with our own eyes. As we said, the truth is false and lies become truth.

Those facts however matter not to the media or Democrats. Yet as much as they refer to the Capitol protest as an “insurrection,” the same media talking heads and Democrats still refer to the actual riots last spring and summer as “largely peaceful protests.”

This despite the fact that an estimated $2 billion in damage was done, and dozens of people were killed, with thousands of police officers injured, some to the point where they can no longer work.

When we talk about an “insurrection,” no mention is made of the incident outside the White House last May when thousands of “peaceful” protesters attacked Secret Service agents outside the White House, and where President Trump and other White House officials had to be sheltered in the bunker out of fear that the fence surrounding the White House would be breached.

If anything remotely resembled an attempted insurrection, that was it. Yet the media ignored that and in fact heavily criticized the “overhanded” tactics used in putting down the attack.

Look for more lies, hyperbole, fantasy and delusion coming out of the media and corporations as we navigate through the nightmare of the Biden administration.

Matters such as the filibuster (also described as a “relic” of the Jim Crow era), packing of the Supreme Court, adding Democrat-leaning areas as states, and gun control are but a few of the areas where we can see truth and objectivity giving way to more lies and twisting of facts.

Biden himself said it during the campaign…”We choose truth over facts.” We suppose it depends on whose “truth” you are talking about.
