Attorney General William Barr has been a prominent presence during the entirety of National Police Week in Washington DC this year.
On Monday evening, he delivered a powerful speech to an audience of thousands of family members, coworkers, supporters and more as a candlelight vigil was held on the National Mall. Tears filled the eyes of survivors as they remembered their loved ones that left this world too early.
And on Wednesday, AG Barr sat on the US Capitol lawn as President Trump helped to honor members of the blue family who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. His support of our nation’s heroes is unwavering, and it clearly showed during his time in front of surviving family members and active duty officers from around the country.
Nancy Pelosi was also present at the Peace Officers Memorial… for a time. She left the stage long before the event had ended.
Following the conclusion of the event, Barr and Pelosi reportedly ran into each other. That’s when Barr used the opportunity to take a playful dig at the Speaker of the House.
“Madam Speaker, did you bring your handcuffs?”
Barr’s comments are referencing Pelosi’s recent call to bring charges against the Attorney General for “committing a crime” and “lying to Congress.”
“He lied to Congress,” Pelosi said. “He lied to Congress. And if anybody else did that, it would be considered a crime. Nobody is above the law. Not the President of the United States and not the Attorney General,” she said at a press conference after Barr failed to show for a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee.
But did Barr actually impede justice?
Democrats want Barr to face penalties over his handling of the Mueller report, but a closer look at the events surrounding the investigation show that Mueller’s letter to Barr expressed more concern about the media’s coverage of the AG rather than the document itself.
Barr’s “handcuffs” comment didn’t go unanswered.
Pelosi reportedly smiled at the AG and noted that if an arrest was necessary, the House Sergeant at Arms was present.
Barr laughed and walked away.
Today at a law enforcement ceremony at Capitol:
AG Barr approached Pelosi, shook her hand: "Madam Speaker, did you bring your handcuffs?"
Pelosi smiled and, per a bystander, told Barr the House Sergeant at Arms was there should an arrest be needed. Barr laughed; walked away

As mentioned in a previous article, at the time when Democrats called for the full, unredacted version of the Mueller Report, not a single Democratic Senator had read what had already been made available.
Pelosi made a joke last week about locking up members of the Trump administration.
“Let me just say that we do have a jail down in the basement of the Capitol,” she said. “But if we were arresting all of the people in the administration, we would have an overcrowded jail situation, and I’m not for that.”
We’re all interested to see this play out.
