The entire Newtown, Connecticut Police Department has this Christmas off following the horrific events at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Police officers from surrounding Connecticut communities are taking over patrol functions under mutual aid agreements so that this grieved and overworked department can stop to enjoy Christmas with their families.
An unidentified lieutenant from nearby Shelton, Connecticut commented, “It is a police thing.” Indeed it is. This is what we do that the public rarely sees, serving quietly, with valor, doing the right thing when it needs to be done. God bless all the officers of the Newtown Police Department and the heroes that have allowed them to have this holy day off to be with their loved ones.
