14 days to flatten the curve? Oregon proposes making mask mandates indefinite

SALEM, OR- Let’s put this out here…don’t say that you were not warned. Remember “14 days to flatten the curve?” Well, we are currently past the one-year anniversary of “14 days to flatten the curve.”

Yet still here we are with mask mandates, six-feet of social distancing, schools closed, businesses shuttered, and the mental health of a large segment of Americans, in particular children, suffering…badly.

Now, a proposal in Oregon may make wearing mask continue…ad infinitum.

The Federalist is reporting that a new proposal in the state was actually unveiled in January which would make “temporary” mask mandates permanent.

The current mask mandate was passed in November by Oregon OSHA which requires all employers to implement and enforce state-imposed guidelines covering social distancing and mask compliance.

It is set to expire on May 4, however power-hungry state bureaucrats are seeking to make the rules permanent…or at least not assign an expiration date.

The proposal reads:

“Although the rule must be adopted as a permanent rule, its purpose is to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Oregon [Occupational Safety and Health] intends to repeal the rule when it is no longer necessary to address the pandemic.” That’s it. No sunset date, no expiration date. Only “no longer necessary.”

Current COVID cases in Oregon are currently averaging less than half what they were in November when the temporary order went into effect.

At that time, the state saw 769 new cases with a seven-day average of 603 positive tests the day the order was announced, which was November 6. Cases were on the rise as the country headed toward the Thanksgiving holiday.

However last week, the state saw 264 new cases and a seven-day average of 284.

Oregon Capital Insider reported that OSHA administrator Michael Wood indicated the mask requirement might not go away until the pandemic is no more.

“We have not yet defeated this disease and we clearly will not have done so by the time the temporary rule expires,” Wood said.

“As a result, it is critically important that we carry forward measures that we know are effective at combating the spread of this disease and reducing risks in the workplace.”

Oregon OSHA continued to explain the proposed rule change:

“Oregon OSHA intends to repeal the rule when it is no longer necessary to address the pandemic. Because it is not possible to assign a specific time for that decision, Oregon OSHA will consult with…the Oregon Health Authority and other stakeholders as circumstances change to determine when all or part of the rule can be appropriately repealed.”

In addition on March 17, Oregon Health Authority Director Patrick Allen announced that all adult residents in the state will be eligible for the vaccine by May 1, which is three days before the mask mandate is set to expire.

“In Oregon every single adult will be eligible for a vaccine on May 1—which does not mean they will get a vaccine on May 1, but they well be eligible,” Allen told News Channel 21.

As is the case in much of the country, a large segment of the population is growing tired of the COVID-19 restrictions, including mask mandates.

What is particularly frustrating is guidance being given by people such as Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has been wrong pretty much across the board since last year, who has stated that masks may still be necessary even after people are vaccinated. That leads to the question: why get vaccinated if you’re still going to have to wear a mask?

In Oregon, the mask mandates are particularly tough, and residents are weary.

For example last week, a local newspaper in the northwestern part of Oregon, the Register-Guard reported on several high school cross-country teams meeting on their own instead of attending large invitationals in order to keep their season intact and students engaged.

In Oregon, even outdoor sports teams are required under Gov. Kate Brown’s dictates to wear face coverings if the arbitrary six-foot social distancing mandate cannot be guaranteed. The outdoor mask mandate is causing students on the cross-country team to struggle.

“It’s tragic to watch,” coach Steve Richards told the Register-Guard.

“It’s hard as a coach to send your kids out there. There’s been a lot of theorizing about the health risks between wearing a mask and not wearing one, and I can’t speak to those. I just know the looks on their faces. They’re running their guts out.”

Still others believe that the masks in and of themselves present a higher safety hazard than the substantially low risk of transmission between high school students, especially outside. The Register-Guard said:

“The state has mandated masks be worn during all practices and competitions for high school sports. It’s a rule many coaches and runners are unhappy with, saying it’s difficult to competitively run 5,000 meters while wearing masks. They also worry it could be dangerous.”

Another coach expressed concern about her kids running with masks on.

“I have two kids with asthma,” Junction City coach Shannon McAdams said. “Running a 5K is hard enough. Running with a mask on could be detrimental.”

One requirement that is not included (at least for now) is requiring employees to be forced to receive the vaccination.

Previously, the Bureau of Labor and Industry announced that employers may require their employees to receive the vaccine with some exceptions, however the new rules say that “employers need not require employees to accept the vaccination.”

This editorial is brought to you by a former Chief of Police and current staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

ATLANTA, GA- If you’ve been paying attention to far-left media for the past ten months, we have been subjected to a running total on the screen of the number of COVID-19 cases, deaths, etc. prominently displayed in order to remind the American people that all of it was TRUMP’S FAULT.

This was clearly intended to keep in front of the American people the death total from the pandemic. Networks such as CNN and MSNBC insisted the total was there for “informational purposes” and wasn’t politically driven. If that’s the case, why has this suddenly disappeared?

Before January 20, 2021, the chyron displayed the number of cases, death rate, total deaths, and so on, in this case on CNN, the Cartoon News Network. But then, a miracle happened. After Biden was sworn in, the death tracker all of a sudden disappeared, with limited exceptions.

A true miracle.

Merely by being sworn in, Biden apparently cured COVID, as reported by TownHall.

That fact did not go unnoticed. Caleb Hull tweeted that he had gone through CNN broadcasts going back to December 15, and the chyron continuously displayed the death count, with only a small number or exceptions.

In fact, in another tweet, Hull posted a snapshot of screenshots from CNN showing the death count prominently displayed at various dates and times.

A subsequent tweet showed a before and after…one before while President Trump was still in office and one after Biden was sworn in. Miraculous! Just by being sworn in, Biden appears to have cured a worldwide pandemic!

This was not lost on the Washington Free Beacon, which decided to pick up the slack for CNN, tweeting the new Biden death count:

“4,409 Americans have died from COVID-19 since President Joe Biden took office,” the latest update from last Thursday at 9 a.m. read.

Hull made the point that out of an abundance of fairness, Biden get the same “credit” for COVID-19 deaths as President Trump did.

“It’s official: Joe Biden is now directly responsible for every COVID death. These are the rules.”

The total was updated on Jan. 22…now 8,298 Americans have died from COVID-19 since Biden took office…the number DOUBLED in only two days!

Likewise, Biden’s executive order mandating mask wearing on federal property also appeared to have worked wonders, since mere hours later, Biden and his family appeared at the Lincoln Memorial, which last we looked was on federal property, not wearing masks. Of course as we have seen repeatedly over the course of the pandemic, rules only apply to the little people…and Republicans.

The fact the Bidens were not wearing masks at the Lincoln Memorial wasn’t lost on some in the media, with Fox News’ Peter Doocy asking the White House press secretary about it at a press briefing, who promptly dismissed the question.

“He was celebrating a historic day,” said Jen Psaki. “I think we have bigger issues to worry about at this moment in time.”

Yeah important. Like putting 50,000 people out of work on the Keystone XL pipeline. Like ensuring men can compete in women’s sports. Like rejoining a climate agreement which will cost even more American jobs…and lots of money. You know, “bigger issues to worry about.”

Call us crazy but it seems that COVID-19 was a pretty big deal to Biden and company over the course of the election. Now all of a sudden there are “bigger issues” we need to be concerned about.

But hey c’mon man…I thought it was our “patriotic” duty to wear masks? To quote Biden:

“Wearing masks isn’t a partisan issue. It’s a patriotic act that can save countless lives.”

Biden’s transgression (?) at the Lincoln Memorial came after his inaugural address, where he said that his administration would “lead not merely by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.”

So, just like Democrats have excepted themselves from their own mandates, from Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot getting her hair done after ordering citizens to remain at home, to California Gov. Gavin Newsom going to a fancy restaurant only to do the same, so too does Biden get an exemption from the “patriotic act” of wearing a mask because it was “a historic day.”

Figured it out yet? Democrats blamed every American death over the course of ten months on President Trump and now that he is no longer in office, COVID deaths are no longer the fault of the president because it’s THEIR president.

Democrats kept businesses shuttered for month, putting hundreds of thousands if not millions on the unemployment lines, and now, even as COVID deaths spike, suddenly they say restaurants can reopen for inside dining.

From CNN and their death count to Biden subverting his own executive orders, Democrats and their media handlers have been playing the American people for nearly one year. And now they have the keys to the whole shooting match.

And half the country is fine with that.
