New York PBA is hosting a 10-13 Special Assistance Benefit for one of their own, New York State Park Police Officer Gary Berreira.

Approximately  a year ago, Berreira was hospitalized due to complications with pneumonia. He had returned to work on limited duty, when he was struck by a hit and run driver while off duty. Berreira sustained horrible injuries, including two broken legs, a collapsed lung, and multiple internal injuries. His health issues were exacerbated when he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Berreira has endured numerous procedures. He has been hospitalized 8 times in the past year alone. Although his bones have healed, the cancer has continued to spread. Berreira has been unable to work since the crash. He has been on half-pay while waiting for his disability retirement. His medical bills are astronomical, and they continue to grow.

Berreira served in the Army, 82nd Airborne before joining the Park Police 21 years ago. He spent a lot of time at Ground Zero on 9/11, ferrying First Responders.

Information on the fund raiser is included below. Checks can be made payable to New York State Park Police, NYC Region PBA. Please list “Berreira 10-13” in the Memo section. All proceeds will go directly to the Berreira family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The New York PBA, the Berreira Family, and New York State law enforcement family would like to thank everyone in advance for the support, prayers, and warm wishes.

Law Enforcement Today would like to wish Officer Berreira a speedy recovery and offer our prayers and support as well.
