Trooper Honored for Pursuit, Arrest
They said Trooper Nicholas Farnesi was given the 100 Club Valor Award for his efforts in apprehending the burglars, including running across all lanes of Interstate 80 in pursuing the men.
Police said the men broke into Freddie Bear Sports, 17250 Oak Park Ave., about 1 a.m. Feb. 16, broke the glass gun cases and swiped the handguns. A man smoking a cigarette outside a bar called police when he saw the men inside, and the men fled in a stolen car as officers arrived, according to police.
Farnesi saw one of the men running up an embankment on I-80 after abandoning the stolen vehicle, and he chased the armed man on foot across the highway and caught him in a wooded area, holding him at gunpoint until back-up arrived, police said.
