Names Released in Officer-Involved Shooting
Officials with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation have released new details about Saturday night’s officer-involved shooting, including the names of the two female suspects who were involved.
Amanda Bergeson, 27, of Ames, was behind the wheel of what police say was a stolen car that, after attempting to allude Ames police, reportedly tried to strike officer Patrick O’Bryan who was on foot, causing him to shoot at the vehicle.
Crystal Messer, 29, was a passenger in the vehicle, and was taken to Des Moines for treatment of non-life threatening injuries following the incident.
Although the incident was reported as an officer-involved shooting, DCI Agent Michael Motsinger would not confirm Sunday afternoon that the woman was actually struck by the bullet fired by O’Bryanr.
The incident began at around 10 p.m. An Ames officer on routine patrol located a black 2011 Toyota Sequoia which had been reported stolen on Friday.
The chase resulted in damage to three police cars, and when the suspects attempted to hit an officer who was on foot with the vehicle, the officer shot at the car.
The vehicle then left the Department of Transportation building at Grand Avenue and South Fourth Street and headed north on Grand Avenue, but was stopped near Eighth Street.
