Motorcycle Deputy Dies In Pursuit of Speeding Motorist
In Altamonte Springs, FL, a Seminole County Sheriff deputy was killed in the line of duty on Monday, the day after Christmas. Deputy Matt Miller, 53, was pursuing a speeding motorist westbound on Maitland Boulevard as part of the motorcycle unit. Information about speeding motorist has not been released.
At the same time, a 49 year-old man from Altamonte Springs was travelling eastbound on the same road and attempted to turn left onto Gateway Drive, cutting off Deputy Miller. The deputy’s motorcycle struck with such force that the other driver’s 1999 Jetta flipped over and onto the deputy and his motorcycle. The driver of the Jetta remains in critical condition. Deputy Miller is survived by his wife and brother.
