Officer Steven Green died in the line of duty in Mobile Alabama while transporting a prisoner. He was stabbed to death by a prisoner just outside the Mobile County Detention Center.
Earlier in the day, Lawrence Wallace had attempted to rob a Mobile area Dollar General Store and, when he was unsuccessful, poured lighter fluid all over the counter and lit it on fire. Wallace was arrested by an off-duty Mobile officer and booked at the police department.
After Wallace stabbed Officer Green, he took his service weapon and vehicle to Dauphin County, Alabama. A shootout ensued following a police chase, after Wallace holed up in a home. Officer Mark Johnson was shot by Wallace during the pursuit, treated at a local hospital, and released. Suspect Lawrence Wallace was killed during the stand-off in the home.
No information was immediately available about how Wallace was able to obtain or retain the knife used to murder Officer Green. He has an extensive criminal history.
Officer Green is survived by his wife and children to mourn his sad loss. Team LET prays for his family and for the officers of the Mobile Alabama Police Department. Rest in peace, brother in blue.
